The save file sits next to the executable
<SteamLibrary>\steamapps\common\PBZ\ProjectPBZ\Saved\SaveGames\Steam\<17-digit
SteamID>\PBZSaveGame.sav
Most Unreal games put saves in %LOCALAPPDATA%, so players waste ten minutes hunting there first.
Phantom Blade Zero only keeps graphics settings in AppData and writes your actual save inside the Steam
install directory. Copy the whole 17-digit SteamID folder before replacing anything:
the folder guide explains the backup subfolders, and
the troubleshooting guide fixes saves that fail to show up at the Bell.

How a single PBZSaveGame.sav holds every slot
PBZSaveGame.sav is an encrypted PBZS v3 archive rather than a single save slot. It starts with a
12-byte header, followed by an AES-256-GCM directory block and one Oodle Kraken compressed block per slot
(AutoSave0, ManualSave1, __Advanced__, and so on). Because inventory,
weapon grades, quest state and the account wardrobe all live inside that one container, dropping a replacement
save file into your SteamID folder swaps all slots at once.
What a save file does not transfer
Steam achievements and total playtime are tracked on your Steam account, not inside the file. Loading a save that already owns all 33 weapons will not trigger the Steam achievement for collecting them.
Steam Cloud also compares timestamps on launch and will overwrite a newly pasted file if it thinks the remote copy is newer. Follow the five-step sequence in moving a save between accounts so your local file wins and syncs upward.
Decrypted and verified against build 26266538
Every starter save on this site has been decrypted with the reference build 26266538 key and decompressed through Oodle Kraken to verify its exact slot names, weapon counts and Dust balance. Each download page lists the file's SHA-256 hash and slot-by-slot contents, and the format specification documents the binary structure if you want to inspect the bytes yourself.
