Save Editor vs Cheat Engine & Trainers

What a PBZS v3 save edit changes compared to a Cheat Engine table or desktop trainer, which one survives a Steam patch, and how to avoid bricking your run.

Three ways to skip the grind on PC

On the Steam PC version of Phantom Blade Zero, players looking to skip material farming or test endgame builds have three options: dropping in a pre-built 100% starter save, modifying their own file in the browser save editor, or attaching a memory trainer (Cheat Engine tables, WeMod, XModHub or FLiNG). Each touches a different layer of the game:

Feature Browser Save Editor 100% Starter Saves Cheat Engine / Trainers
How it works Decrypts & edits PBZSaveGame.sav in browser Replaces PBZSaveGame.sav in SteamID folder Injects DLL / hooks live RAM in PBZ.exe
Keeps your quest progress Yes (edits your active slot in place) No (resets to first Bell or Cycle 10) Yes (unless a bad pointer corrupts autosave)
Max Dust, materials & +7 grades Yes (permanent in save file) Yes (pre-unlocked in file) Yes (while trainer is attached)
Open 66 Days mode early Requires Cycle 10 clear flag Yes (Cycle 10 save) No
Infinite HP / Stamina / Sha-Chi in combat No (not stored in save file) No Yes (live memory freeze)
Requires installing .exe / disabling AV No (runs in browser tab via WASM) No (plain .sav file) Yes (desktop client or .ct script)

Every method above works on the Steam PC release, but they behave very differently the day after a game update lands.

Why hotfixes break trainers faster than save files

Memory trainers rely on hardcoded pointer chains or AOB (Array of Bytes) signatures inside PBZ.exe. Every time S-GAME ships a small Steam hotfix, compiler layout changes can shift those offsets. Activating an outdated "Infinite Materials" script after a patch can write 999999 into an adjacent struct in memory, which then gets serialized into PBZSaveGame.sav the next time you touch a Bell.

By contrast, a PBZS v3 save stores inventory inside a structured UTF-8 JSON tree (InventoryInfos, MainWeaponInfos, AccessoryInfos). Our browser save editor parses that JSON, clamps numbers to each item's declared ceiling, and leaves every untouched slot's AES-256-GCM ciphertext byte-for-byte identical.

Which option should you pick?

Always copy your 17-digit SteamID folder before testing either a save edit or a trainer.

Is it safer to use a Phantom Blade Zero save editor or Cheat Engine?

Editing PBZSaveGame.sav (after backing up your 17-digit SteamID folder) is much safer across game updates. Cheat Engine tables and trainers hook into live memory offsets inside PBZ.exe, which shift whenever a Steam hotfix ships and can crash the game mid-autosave.

Can a save editor give me infinite health or one-hit kills?

No. A save file only stores persistent data written at a Bell checkpoint: weapon ownership, weapon grades (+0 to +7), Sha-Chi armaments, accessories, material quantities, Dust and outfits. Real-time combat buffs like god mode only exist in RAM and require a trainer.

Why do trainers sometimes corrupt PBZSaveGame.sav?

Some trainers freeze inventory pointers or write out-of-range integers directly into memory. When you rest at a Bell or quit to desktop, the game serializes that corrupted memory state into PBZSaveGame.sav and overwrites your 1RealTime backup.

When should I download a 100% starter save instead of editing my own?

Use a starter save when you are starting a fresh PC run (or switching over from PS5) and want all weapons or 66 Days mode unlocked immediately at the first Bell. Use the browser save editor when you are mid-campaign and want to keep your own quest progress.
